Aamir’s PK Does 95 Crore Business in First Weekend

The perfectionist Aamir Khan’s new movie PK released last Friday looks to become one of the top hits of 2014, judging by the collections that the movie has received over its first weekend. The movie PK directed by Aamir’s friend and popular hit director Raj Kumar Hirani recorded a collection of Rs. 38.24 crores on Sunday, according to  the producer of the film. This is 30% more ticket sales than what the movie PK got on Saturday.

Aamir’s PK Does 95 Crore Business in First Weekend

PK’s first day’s collection on Friday was just Rs. 26.63 crores. But, this collection is considered to be the best non holiday opening day collection for a movie in 2014. The collections soared to Rs. 30.34 crores on Saturday and reached its peak at Rs. 38.24 crores on Sunday to amass a total collection of Rs. 95.21 crores in just three days. The movie is already a hit and one will have to wait and see if the film reaches the magical 200 crore collection mark in its lifetime run at the box office. The films released in 2014 to collect over 200 crores were: Kick by Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year.

The biggest business for PK has come from the multiplexes. There were a few Mumbai single theaters that were not showing the movie when it released on 19th December because of the premium charges charged on the ticket prices. This is the second time that ace director Raj Kumar Hirani and actor Aamir Khan have come together after their runaway hit movie 3 Idiots. But, trade pundits are of the opinion that PK will not be able to match the tremendous run that 3 Idiots had in the cinemas and will not gross earnings like 3 Idiots.

The film has Aamir Khan playing the lead role and his character is that of a displaced alien. This is one of the best performances by Aamir Khan till date and he has received five star ratings for his acting skills in the movie from the critics. He challenges the notions of God and religion in this movie, which has led to a Twitter battle on banning the movie for the concept. This is also the first time that Aamir Khan has spoken in Bhojpuri in this movie and has done 100% justice to his role as an alien. The movie PK also stars Anushka Sharma, Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjay Dutt in important roles. There are even plans to make the sequel of PK.
