The Schedule of Barrack Obama during His Three Day Visit to India
Obama will be the first US President to be the Chief Guest at the Republic Day parade in India. He will be accompanied by his wife Michelle Obama and a team of senior officials in his government.
During his three day visit, starting from January 25th, United States President Barack Obama will have a tight schedule. He will hold talks with the top leaders in New Delhi on ways to make progress on key issues such as defence and civil nuclear agreement and attend the Republic Day celebrations as the chief guest, along with other engagements.
On the first day of his visit, the American president and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have comprehensive talks on the entire array of bilateral ties and discuss the ways to increase cooperation in key areas, including civil nuclear and defence pacts. The two countries have already decided to renew the pacts for 10 years during a summit meeting in September in Washington to start cooperative development and production of military hardware.
It is expected that during the visit seven- year-old civil nuclear deal will get a boost as the cooperation in the sector has been hindered due to the tough provisions in the Civil Nuclear Liability Act. The two leaders had decided to set up a high-level contact group on civil nuclear cooperation during their meeting in last September.
Two rounds of bilateral talks have already been held on range of implementation issues including administrative liability, technical and licensing to make easy the establishment of nuclear power plants with the cooperation from the US.
According to reports, the two sides are working on a proposal for an insurance pool by the domestic Indian companies to compensate the financial burden of American entities as both countries are keen to have a “concrete” deliverable in the area during the visit of US president.
It is expected that Modi and Obama will make press statements after their meeting. The US president will also attend the banquet hosted by President Pranab Mukherjee in his honour at Rashtrapati Bhavan, according to the information available from New Delhi.
On the second day, Obama will attend the Republic Day parade, and later along with Modi, will take part in Indo-US CEO roundtable. On the final day of his visit, Obama is expected to address people in a town hall. However, the time and place have not been finalised so far.
According to information, the advance US team will be in India soon to finalise the security and protocol issues. Before their departure from India, the first US couple will also visit Taj Mahal.
